My Photos

About Me: My name is Darryl Forbes, and I am married to my wife, Kim, and have 2 boys, Nick and Ben, ages 25 and 22. I teach high school math at Highlander Charter School in Warren, RI (a recent photo of my classroom is above) and I have been there almost 4 years. I have taught both middle school and high school math since 2013, when I made a career change from business, mostly working in the Financial Services industry. I went to Bentley University in Waltham, MA as an undergraduate, and we live in Somerset, MA.

Here is a picture of my cat Skipper, who recently passed at almost 16 years old. He was always around me. Here's a picture of Skipper with a Pop Art of me, at my desk where I taught remotely during Covid, and still do some remote tutoring from here after school. I also have 2 cats, Gilligan (Skipper's brother), and Bubba.
I am a baseball fan. My favorite team is the Boston Red Sox, and we also went to Yankee Stadium last year to see the Yankees play the San Francisco Giants, and Citi Field to see the New York Mets play the Colorado Rockies. This picture is of the Red Sox Ace, Garrett Crochet, pitching this summer vs. the Florida Marlins. I went to each baseball game with my family. We also went to a couple Broadway plays when we were in New York City last year.

Here is a picture of Coco Cay, Bahamas, where my family and I stopped on a Royal Caribbean cruise this past summer from New Jersey outside of New York City to the Bahamas. This summer, our family has another Caribbean cruise planned, which also stops at Coco Cay!
Here is a picture of my sons Nick and Ben, at Ben's graduation from Salem State University in Salem, MA last Spring, along with my wife Kim and myself.

  1. Hi Darryl, it’s great to meet you. Your transition from financial services into education is really compelling, and it’s clear how much experience and perspective you bring to teaching high school math. Teaching across both middle and high school since 2013, and spending nearly four years at Highlander, gives you such a strong understanding of student growth over time.

I’m very sorry to hear about Skipper. Pets who are with us through major life moments, especially during remote teaching, truly become part of our daily rhythm, and that kind of loss is deeply felt. My kitten Karma passed last October, and it was pretty hard for us, especially after the passing of my mother. It’s nice that Gilligan and Bubba are still close by.

Your love of baseball, Broadway, and family time really shines through. Attending games and traveling together sounds like a meaningful way to make lasting memories. Congratulations to Ben on his graduation as well. I’m looking forward to learning alongside you this semester and hearing more from your experiences in and beyond the classroom.
